The Iran country chapter for the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition annual report – Ignoring Red Lines: Violence Against Health Care in Conflict – reveals that in 2022, there were at least 85 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Iran. These followed the death of Mahsa Amini and later protests. Among the incidents, at least 71 health workers were arrested and four were killed. Security forces also commandeered ambulances for non-medical purposes on at least 20 occasions, undermining health providers’ ability to access people in need.
