Insecurity Insight monitors attacks on health care in Israel. Violence severely escalated in October 2023 when Hamas-affiliated militant groups launched attacks from Gaza into southern Israel and killed almost 1,200 women, children and men – mostly civilians – and took 240 people hostage into Gaza.

Insecurity Insight documents conflict events affecting aid operations, education and health care as well as incidents of political-related sexual violence and explosive weapons use in Israel.

Health Care

Based on Insecurity Insight data, the Israel chapter of the 2023 Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition report identified at least 33 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Israel in 2023. In these incidents, at least 22 first responders and hospital staff were killed while offering care to individuals wounded in the Hamas attacks of October 7. The full chapter is accessible here.
